What if I told you the only reason I ended up in advertising was because I retired early in Mexico?
Yes, I’m serious. But if you want the full story, you’re gonna have to give me a call.
Anyways, through that experience I met a guy on a beach (in MX). That guy introduced me to another guy.
A few months later, the guys called me. They knew I did freelance writing and needed my help. They were pretty cool, so I agreed to help throw down on some social media copy and PR outreach for their documentary, Wade in the Water: A Journey into Black Surfing and Aquatic Culture.
Then, the guy who directed it liked me so much that he wanted to hire me. Unfortunately, I was retired and didn’t have much of a portfolio to show the agency he works at.
So, he recommended that I apply to One School: a free, intensive advertising portfolio program for Black creatives.
And that’s where this love affair started.
I applied, got in, and spent 16 weeks diving head first into briefs with some of the flyest creatives I’ve ever met; living, laughing, and learning our way through it all.
